Cast iron ribbed skillet/ grill panThis grill pan is ideal for range cookers, gas, or electric hobs and ovens. It has a ribbed 23 cm/ 9 inch base which will fry dry if you wish so that you don't need oil. The ribbed base gives the pan the restaurant seared look. Cast iron is used by chefs all over the world because of its heat retaining and distribution properties. It builds its own natural non stick surface over time. It also has a cast iron handle. To prepare the natural non stick surface you have to season the pan. You do this before you use the pan for the first time. This is what you do: - Wash the pan in soapy water and use a scouring pad all over, inside and out. This helps prepare the surface for the oil.
- Rinse and dry
- Coat with vegetable oil inside and out.
- Place in the oven for 1 hour at 200C
- Remove and allow to cool naturally.
- Wipe off excess oil with a paper towel.
The pan is then "seasoned" and ready for use. You will need to re season it from time to time for optimum performance. You can cook healthier meals using this pan because you need little if any oil. If you do use oil the food is slightly raised up from it - not swimming or drowning in it! Do not use a dishwasher;the strong detergents will remove the seasoning.
